The bendix on my starter is not engaging the flywheel went I try to start it. Is it possible to just remove the starter and adjust or clean the bendix or is it just a part I will have to replace? I know its separate from the starter.

2012 800 Power Steering Issue
I have a 2012 800 rzr and I have had some problems lately. My power steering was going in and out then over the winter I got the low voltage warning. I replaced the voltage regulator yesterday now everything is fine. I get 13.5 or so volts on the battery when running as opposed to the Lo7.8-10.2 I was getting. The power steering had completely stopped working before this and had the dash indicator for EPS. I assumed it wasn't getting the 12v it needed and after fixing that issue it would be ok. Now the volatge is fixed and everything is working fine but the light is still on and still no power steering. What could be causing this?

2011 rzr 800 home made snorkel questions?
I've read and read and read and got a good understanding of what most guys do but still have a couple questions on snorkeling my 11' Standard RZR 800. I went and picked up some ABS pipe some "fernco's" or as we call them around here rubber couplers, you should see the looks I get when I asked for ferncos, ha. And got some 2" 90's and a 2" 45. Didn't have much time today to get started yet but took the box off quick and took a peek with the few minutes I had to spare earlier. Bare with me I'm new to this Rzr stuff, Anyway...
First how do I go about sealing the back of the clutch housing? Couldn't find much about doing this.
Second At least 2 of the pipes (I think its the airbox intake tube and the clutch intake tube cant remember for sure) aren't really 100% round so will the 2" and 3"-2" couplers really seal properly? Also looks like I would be better of getting a 2 1/2" - 3" coupler instead looks like 3" will be a little too big haven't tried slipping it on yet but that's just how it looks to me.
And how do you guys get to installing the rear 45 or 90 or whatever on the rear tube? It looked like a pretty tight space to be working in. Anyway hope somone can chime in with a little help for this rookie on this age old subject. Oh ya and I assume the box in the middle between the seats that the clutch and that vent from just gets tossed in the garbage or...?
BTW I have read quite a few threads but there is only a couple for the 2011 800 models most guys are posting threads about the 900 and 1000 models which I'm told are a little different.

New to rzr 800 50" tire question
I am a new rzr owner and I've installed a 2" lift and 1" spacers. I plan on going to 27" tires and am thinking of getting off set wheels to increase overall width for lateral stability is this a good idea? Or just the bigger tires ? Thanks for any answers.

2014 RZR EPS Trail Idle problem
Only 400 miles, clean intake, well maintained. When at A stop the idle at times stumbles as if the ignition key shuts off for A second. Often it recovers, sometimes it stops completely. Runs fine at speed. I had an RZR 2008 and had A similar issue and cured it by adjusting the play at throttle body cable. The adjustment on the 2014 looks completely different than 2008. Any advise appreciated.

rzr 800 not running right
I have a stock 2009 rzr 800.It was running fine but when I started it yesterday it started then died after several attempts to start it started and run rough at about 900 rpm after a few mins it idled up to regular idle like 1150 to 1200 rpm but just didn't sound right acted like running in a strain.I rode several hours shutting off and on and started back fine but just don't sound correct and didn't seem as snappy with throttle response. Then today had to go through same process to get running and sounds sameway. It smells like its running rich also.Any ideas whats going on with it??

Possible '10 Walker Evans purchase
So I'm looking to get into a RZR but realistically I know it will not be used enough to justify a $12-$15 thousand dollar purchase. So I have found a 2010 800 walker Evans edition for around $7000 it has about 600 miles on it original owner. Looks to be in good shape. Question is would this be a good ride for me to start out the sport with? I'm in my 40's may bring the wife or son for a ride here and there Most of my riding will be trails in the woods with mud holes and such:question: looking for all input and advise

Cheaper DIY Pinion Nut Tools - Credit to the Forum!
First of all, thank you to mostly to Pullerguy and Bigjeepman for the pinion nut video. You guys are far away from me but this video and thread gave me a really good picture of what the "pinion nut problem" is and how it gets fixed. I thought I would start a new thread in case folks wanted to search for tools, DIY, homemade etc (and the sticky was getting really long!).
I wanted to tackle my 2012 800 (4000 km/2500 miles/325 hours) and wanted to get the proper nut torque in the end (i.e. without a big pneumatic impact wrench). I can see that many people want to do this themselves like I do.
Pinion nut wrench: I purchased a gently used 1-3/4", 3/4" drive standard socket from local liquidator (Gregg Liquidators, Edmonton, $24 CDN). I zip cut the top off and welded it to two 1"X1/4" flatbar. I welded a big nut to the apex to connect my torque wrench.

Pinion shaft holding tool: I could find a 1", 15-spline coupling locally at a driveline shop for about $55CDN but I wanted to try a cheaper approach first. I figured that I could make a holder using the existing splined coupling on the machine without damaging it (connects the angle drive to the transmission output shaft). I bought a 1" bolt ($6CDN! they only had Grade 5 at the Peavey Mart) and ground off the threads until it fit inside the coupling (about 7/8" diameter). Then I zip cut three longitudinal grooves into the bolt to accept a 1/8" mild steel rod (15 splines / 3 = groove every 5 splines. I calculated that three rods ~1" long were well under the shear stress developed from 250 ft-lb, my rods are even longer). A bit more touch up with the zip disc and, voila... pinion shaft holder

Here's the grooved bolt in the Rzr splined coupling:

Here's the whole rig in place ready for tightening. 250 foot pounds is a lot of torque!
![]()
If you're wondering how to calculate the torque wrench setting:
- 44" from pinion nut to middle of torque wrench handle
- 24" long torque wrench (socket center to middle of handle)
- 250 ft-lb desired X 12 inches/foot = 3000 inch-pounds
- 3000 inch-pounds / 44 inches = 68.2 pounds pulling on the torque wrench handle
- 68.2 pounds X 24 inch wrench length = 1636 inch-pounds on torque wrench
- 1636 inch-pounds / 12 inches/foot = 136 foot-pounds
So... I set my torque wrench to 136 foot-pounds (it has to be more or less in line with the homemade wrench for this to work)
The results:
My pinion nut was not very tight - I estimate about 30 ft-lbs! That is at 4000km/2500miles. It actually IS just a matter of time before this lets go and blows up your rear angle drive at huge expense (money and wasted weekends). Thanks again for the buzz on this issue in the Forum!!
Cost (Canadian dollars, for USD just cut it in half!)
- Socket $24
- Steel bar & rod $10
- 1" bolt $6
- Polaris Parts $70 (Ranger non-nyloc nut, o-ring, seal, 2X exhaust seals)
Total: maybe $120 including new oil
I hope this helps someone. If you're near Edmonton Alberta I will certainly loan/give you my homemade tools. Pay it forward!
