Well I have been using this site for about a year, tons of info, so I thank you all for that! So I figured it was time for me to give back. Tired of reading threads for the fender mod with the XP fenders, because I personally don't like them, so I decided to mod my RZR-S fenders. Did a little DIY, please provide feedback if you see where improvements can/should be made.
The mod pulls the rear of the fender back 3.5". To start, remove fenders. Remove two the forward clip-nuts off the rocker. Remove the two clip-nuts for the fender, just above where the rocker attaches.
1. Make two identical fender extensions, I cut mine from a damaged rocker panel I recently replaced. Utilize the template in Pic 1.
2. You will be pulling the fender back and attaching the lower screw into the hole just aft of it. Pic 2
3. Mark location for a new hole aft 3/4" from center of OE hole, drill hole with 5/16 bit. Pic 3
4. Pic 4 shows what is to be cut from rocker panel. Measure 3.5" from the forward-lower corner of the rocker, mark it. Draw a line from that mark up to the center of the mounting hole in step 3.
5. CUT :scared2:
6. Install clip-nut on new mounting hole made in step 3.
7. Mock up fender and fender extension. Adjust extension piece to desired location. Mark holes through fender, onto fender extension. Remove extension and drill 5/16" holes. Attach clip-nuts and reinstall fender and fender extension.
8. With Fender and extension in place, drill new mounting holes into main frame. I chose to pre-drill, I believe I used a 5/32" bit. Once holes were predrilled I install OEM Polaris Torx screws. Pic 5
With the 26s on my RZR4, Pic 6 and 7 show my gap behind the rear of the tire. Pic 8, 9 and 10 show the new clearance.
I wanted to do this for my XP1K takeoffs going on, but wanted to try and avoid the lift if possible. This mod could not have been accomplished without the knowledge on this site, for that I thank you.
